Seated (L-R): HW Kaitesi (Registrar -Research and Training), HW Langa (Chief Registrar) , Mr. David S Kikabi(Principal Information Technology Officer/Project Manager - ECCMIS)
The Chief Registrar, HW Sarah Langa Siu, on February 18, 2022 closed a two-day refresher training on the Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS) at the Judicial Training Institute in Nakawa.
The training targeted Judicial Officers whose Cluster One courts are expected to go live on March 1, 2022. These are; the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Anti-Corruption, Civil, Commercial and Land divisions as well as Mengo Chief Magistrates Court. The other group trained were officers from the Judiciary Call Centre.
The Chief Registrar congratulated participants for having completed the training successfully and also applauded the facilitators for working tirelessly to ensure that ECCMIS is adopted by the Judiciary.
She noted that together with the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr Pius Bigirimana, they had committed to the country that come March 1, there would be digital transformation in the court processes. The commitment was made on Thursday during a press briefing at the Judiciary headquarters.
The Chief Registrar stated that the earlier planned ECCMIS Go-Live date of the beginning of the New Law Year was hindered by some challenges in the migration of data from the old system to the new one.
She informed the participants that ECCMIS kiosks had been put up in all courts prior to the ECCMIS Go-Live preparations and also advised the technical team to select Registry staff with a high degree of integrity to work in the kiosks so as to avoid corruption.
The Chief Registrar urged the participants to embrace the new system and ensure that it is operational and used by all at their respective stations.
